Frosty Finest Fir – Finishes First

The 8th Saanichton Community Christmas was nothing short of a sunny, community event this year. The Pancake Breakfast with Santa doubled its contribution to the Sidney Lions Food Bank, and the photo session with Santa was equally as busy. Over 150 people walked the Christmas Tree Trail this year, with many more getting the opportunity to see how people ‘used to travel’ with an open-air horse and carriage ride.

Anchor Insurance/Seafirst Insurance won the ‘Best Tree’ award with a cool rendition of ‘Frosty The Snowman meets a Christmas Tree’ theme. The Pioneer Society was a close second, and Thrifty Foods and Peninsula Chiropractic tied for 3rd. “What was great about the tree trail was that every tree had a few votes”, noted Jim Townley of Fresh Cup, “When all the numbers come in from the Pancake Breakfast, food and cash donations from the event we raised just over $2,500 for the Food Bank.

The newly added ‘Winter Craft Fair’ was a big hit as people shopped for some unique local products and specialty foods.

Special Thanks goes out to: The Wave Soccer Team, Lucas and Ava Hodgson for their coffee fundraising, Allison Smith and Sue Hodgson for their help, Trevor Charmley, Katherine Nutt, Dan Olive, Kevin and Cameron Lowe for their set-up help. Lindsay and Anne Monto from Genesis for their help on the Christmas Tree Trail, Brad Prevedoros and Jennifer Louise Taylor for their musical magic.
